Well if one thing should be painfully obvious, "Let's Talk Native..." is an important voice for an under-served people. The media was perfectly content with New York State Senator Mark Grisanti's version of his altercation at the Seneca Niagara Casino last Friday night . They were fine with painting Native people in the worst possible light over this whole mess. It was only through my show, my guests and the cell phone video of one of my phone guests that this story began being questioned. If you are offended that the truth is coming out, don't support my show. If you liked Mr. Grisanti's unchallenged version of his altercation, don't support my show. If you think the main stream media is doing a fine job without a Native voice among them, then by all means, do not support my show. But if you want to learn about Native issues, if you care to understand a Native perspective, if you think there is value in challenging how poorly the main stream media characterizes Native issues and events, then support "Let's Talk Native...with John Kane". Give us a listen. Call, comment, agree, disagree; but Let's Talk. I promise to be respectful; no racial slurs, no savage attacks and if you don't "know who the *#@& I am, that's OK. If you are Native and you haven't listened and if you don't support a Native voice on Western New York's air waves, then my show isn't for you.

Do you believe me now that we have to get our voices out there?

I won't support your show because you are a propagandist. You give airtime to liars. The Seneca Casino has reviewed the tapes and say Grisanti said nothing like the crap you are selling. You should be ashamed of yourself.
The news reviewed one video off a cellphone, which was only a partial video of the whole incident. The casino surveilence usually is video feed only, with only certain areas complete with sound. The lobby would not likely be one of those areas. You should get your facts straight before judging anyone trying to get the real story out there, complete with eyewitness accounts.
The Grisanti’s were not attacked. There was no under lying tensions between Senecas and the State politicos that attended the event. The Grisanti’s drank too much and misjudged their self importance. Both of them initiated physical contact, unfortunately, Maria chose the wrong Seneca face to claw.
The video shows plenty. It shows that for the last 5 minutes of the conflict Mark Grisanti was the only one who required restraining. It shows that all his hype about his concern for his wife was trumped by his own anger towards a Seneca man who, at best, poked him in the chest and dismissed his relevance. When the Senator was finally let back to his feet, he never went to his wife; he never comforted her or evaluated her condition after her “beating”. He actually pushed her away when she tried with others to calm him down. This is what the video showed. It also showed him rush the target of his anger, knocking him to the ground and once again being restrained almost to the point of putting him to sleep with an arm around his neck.
Any of you haters of Native sovereignty should note that both the State Police and Niagara Falls Police, via the Gaming Compact, have criminal jurisdiction in the Casino. Any failure to charge “attackers” of the good Senator and his lovely lady are on them. It is not a murky jurisdictional question. The surveillance video, which they have complete viewing access to, simply does not support the Grisanti claims.
Clearly some Senecas were behaving badly at after an event that should never have brought such behavior, but make no mistake about it; the behavior of the Grisanti’s was worse. Even if not judged through the lens of an elected State official, the language and conduct of the Senator was shameful and the actions of his wife were stupid. But far worse than the events of Friday night, was the portrayal of the events by the Grisanti’s to any media source that would listen or pass their “story” along. Their characterization of their altercation as an attack and one that came because of race and politics, is the lowest form of deception.
Excellent reporting John. I have been following your efforts at bringing the truth of this matter out and not once have i heard of or seen you exxagerating any of the events that occurred but instead letting the evidence reveal itself in a good, consistant and truthful manner. Wish other news and media sources could do the same. It’s too bad sources like anonymous have to remain anonymous to spout their crap that is totally unfounded both in written word about the events that occurred as well as video evidence. Keep up the excellent work bro.
Then who gave Mrs. Grisanti the concussion?
I would suspect she received a concussion from being thrown to the floor or punched after she foolishly threw her drink into the face of the same woman whose face she clawed in her own vicious attack. Of course diagnosing a concussion is not an exact science and perhaps had she gotten medical attention immediately instead of going home to sleep off her "two drink" evening first she would also have been better off.
